'tit Rəx 10th Anniversary - 'X'
Well, we knew it would happen sooner or later, and this year it did. It rained.
The collective wireless bandwidth as we continually checked every weather app and service under the sun for the 24 hours leading up to parade time was, let’s just say, ‘way too much.’
The driving rain had washed all our chalk-marked staging markers from the neutral ground sidewalk as if to say, “Yeah I don’t think so you silly tiny fools!” Inside the St. Roch Firehouse it was jammed-packed for our pre-roll gathering, not only with krewe, but just about everyone else who didn’t want to stand in the rain outside, and a crowd-sized sense of “What do we do?” was so thick you could cut it with an exacto knife. But, as fate would have it, *just about* (I say that because I don’t really know if it was exact) 5pm the rain reduced to a trickle, then stopped.
People lined the neutral ground all the way from Marais St and the St. Roch Pub to the street across from the Firehouse, which was a first…and they all whooped and hollered as we made our way toward the head of the market, and the St. Claude turn. We danced, we dodged puddles, and thanked whatever power that be for the silver bullet of a rain break!
As in past years the crowds came out, and we can definitely say “Rain or Shine’ now. Thank you again to our friends at the St. Roch Firehouse and everyone who braved the weather and uncertainty with us!
Of course Gallier Small, and Ping-Pong Ball afterwards at the AllWays Lounge was a huge success. So… let’s start gearing up for NEXT YEAR.
